Ingredients for 60 servings:
1. 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2. 1 teaspoon baking powder
3. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4. 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
5. 1/4 teaspoon salt
6. 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
7. 1 cup granulated sugar
8. 2 large eggs
9. 1 1/2 cups dates, pitted and chopped
10. 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350ºF.
2. Combine the flour, baking powder, spices and salt.
3. In a large bowl, cream the shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
4. Fold in the dates and walnuts.
5. Drop the dough by spoonfuls 1-1/2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
6. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until lightly covered. Transfer to wire racks to cool.
